Understanding ferrules for bamboo fly rods
Ferrules are the bridge that connect the upper and lower sections of a bamboo fly rod. Having the right type and size of ferrule is key to the integrity of the rod and allows the taper to function as it was designed. In the videos below we walk you through how to assess ferrules for damage, how to remove ferrules from a rod, and finally how to size and install new ferrules.
Our ferrules are handmade in Vermont by CSE, who offer the industry standard for high quality drawn ferrules. You can find less expensive ferrules out there, but there is nothing like the real thing.
